The coverage for Trip Cancellation will be effective for an Insured at 12:01 a.m. on the day after the date your plan payment and enrollment form is received. All other coverages will begin on the later of: (a) 12:01 a.m. Standard Time on the scheduled Departure Date shown on the travel documents or (b) the date and time the Insured starts his/her Trip, provided any required plan cost has been paid (the effective date varies based on the plan and the provider, not all are effective the same day as purchase).
Understanding your effective date is critical because any events that occur before coverage becomes effective will not be covered. For example, if you purchase a policy and a hurricane is named before your policy's effective date, the hurricane may be considered a known event and not covered. Purchase your policy as soon as possible after making trip deposits to maximize your coverage window.
